Lester and Candy, sitting in a tree ...

At tonight’s debate, Donald Trump faced off not just against Hillary Clinton, but against moderator Lester Holt.

The game of two-on-one saw Holt (this years Candy Crowley - me) ask no questions about:

    * Hillary’s emails
    * Benghazi
    * The Clinton Foundation

While ignoring these issues, Holt grilled Trump on stop-and-frisk, the birther story, his comments about women, his many bankruptcies, why he hasn’t released his tax returns — and a host of other issues the media sees as unfriendly to the Republican candidate.

Holt also repeatedly attempted to “fact check” on some of Trump’s positions, such as his claim to have opposed the Iraq War from the beginning. Holt interrupted Trump several times to interject, but rarely succeeded (and may have come across as weak and impotent).

This quick analysis naturally mirrors my own.  Trump showed marvelous self restraint, IMO, for not slapping both of them.  When Hillary brazenly asked Trump what he was afraid of by not releasing his tax reports I was jumping all over the room.

"JFC!  The first thing she and Slick did as co-president was assign Vince Forster the job of cleaning up unpaid tax and unreported income from previous years. And, JFC!  The Clinton Foundation fraud!."

Your reputation set in stone Lester. DNC Shill.

Holt's obvious partisanship was perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the whole affair, although, in retrospect, it was neither surprising nor unpredictable. As soon as I figured out which side Holt was actually a cheerleader for, a particular phrase started running through my head as a means to express it.

The phrase is from a song written by R&B singer and songwriter Titus Turner, a song that was a big hit for Little Milton in 1969 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DaaJ4EPYwI] and has been recorded by several others. "If Lester Holt’s non-partisan," I semi-sang to myself, "then grits ain't groceries, eggs ain't poultry, and Mona Lisa was a man!"

If Lester Holt is a man, the definitions have changed.

Lester has been on the fecal roster ever since he went on national TV and said that the slow response to Katrina was only because NO was primarily black.

Of course Holt was shamelessly biased and even argumentative against Trump. We would all be shocked if he wasn't.

Trump needs to cope with moderator bias in real time. Scripting a few zingers such as, "Why don't you take Hillary's podium if you want to debate me?" would cast him as a formidable leader.
