The Atheist Delusion

Having to prove the existence of God to an atheist is like having to prove the existence of the sun, at noon on a clear day. Yet millions are embracing the foolishness of atheism. “The Atheist Delusion” pulls back the curtain and reveals what is going on in the mind of those who deny the obvious. It introduces you to a number of atheists who you will follow as they go where the evidence leads, find a roadblock, and enter into a place of honesty that is rarely seen on film.
I post this, not to attack atheists (who, on this blog, are people I would readily break bread with) , but becausealong with jazz, and  knowledge that there are people who will actually vote for Hillary ClintonAtheism is something I cannot get my mind to wrap around.  The Atheist Delusion is not at all confrontational, but appeals to logic.  I think it's among the most brilliant presentations I've ever seen.  Comments appreciated.

"...Atheism is something I cannot get my mind to wrap around."

belief in a supreme being is something I cannot get my mind to wrap around. the basic premise of religion is that there is an infinitely powerful being in an infinite time span. the basic premise of atheism is that there is an infinite time span.

theists say "i don't understand, therefore a supreme being created it." atheists say, "i don't understand, therefore we don't know everything."

i choose to believe in infinity once as it is the most difficult concept for the mind to grasp and i choose to explain that which i don't understand by learning more.

let the good Christian hate flow forth now as it (almost) always does.

ps i also like some jazz.

Did you watch the film?

did i watch the film? not yet. a film that advertises itself with the statement " millions are embracing the foolishness of atheism" does not appeal to me anymore than one saying "the idiocy of christianity" would appeal to you. i might watch once i have my anger under control.

good enough for you, or must i watch it in order to post?

btw i was raised Missouri Synod Lutheran and spent 7 years of my medical training in a Catholic hospital. i have read more Bible and catechism than most and was confirmed into the Lutheran Church.

I'd rather be an atheist than a MUZZIE, if I had to choose.

I know some rabid Atheists. It is not a pretty thing. It is worse than Christianity as portrayed by the modern liberal left (a bunch of bloodthirsty crusaders). It is almost as bad as current-day Musselmans who wish to cut your head off or make a slave out of you! Those who claim the religion of Atheism as their own religion (for that's what they are effectually doing) are blind fools with their head in a plastic bag. At least claim more honestly to be Agnostic (one who knows nothing).

"theists say "i don't understand, therefore a supreme being created it." atheists say, "i don't understand, therefore we don't know everything.""

That is decidedly not what many atheists say.

say Rodger the Real King of France, i noticed that you haven't asked anyone else if they watched the film.

funny how that works, isn't it?

I am a theist. Like most theists, I say "I DO understand. And a supreme being created it."

Atheism is the "rejection of the belief that any deity exists."

Actually, the self proclaimed Atheists with whom I have interacted have been rabidly (spittingly) anti Christian under the assumption that I was Christian. I can only assume that in hating Christianity, they ignorantly claim to be Atheist. In actuality, they are probably governmentalists - another religion.

I have not watched it yet. However - as with most recommendations - When the King says "watch it!" we watch it.

Well JLW, TRKoF runs this here little benevolent dictatorship and pays the majority of the bills his own self.

Most folks would assume that gives him the right to ask whatever questions he wants......

I find that there are Atheist, who chose not to believe in God and Antitheist, who mandate that no one should believe in God.

"Rodger the Real King of France, i noticed that you haven't asked anyone else if they watched the film. jlw"

Whoa. It certainly was not my intention to piss anyone off. I thought the presentation was a near perfect argument and wondered, up front, whether others agreed. We're still buds?

Okay, I'm an atheist. I'm just not a "rabid" one. In fact, I envy theists the comfort of their religion, and quite frankly, I'm not going to speak ill of how people manage to find spiritual comfort in this shitty world.

WHat people miss is the loneliness of atheism -- the fact that when you die, there's simple oblivion. There's no comforting thought of "being with your loved ones in heaven" or whatever -- in fact, there's no comfort whatsoever.

Believe me: with Connie battling the last stages of terminal cancer, I WISH there was an afterlife so we could one day be together. But my (and her) intellect just can't accept religious belief, and many's the time we've cried together knowing that our time will end in... nothingness.

Allow me, then, to quote the thoughts of Arthur Balfour (a Christian):

"Imperishable monuments and immortal deeds, death itself and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been. The energies of our system will decay, the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest."

THAT thought is what atheists deal with, every single day.

Great comment Kim, but ...

"Believe me: with Connie battling the last stages of terminal cancer ... "

JFC, I didn't know. I will certainly include her in my prayers. What kind of cancer? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but it might help Connie if she watched the film. Certainly won't hurt.
