NYT Op-Ed: Communism Gave Americans ‘Sense of One’s Own Humanity’

In anticipation of May Day, the international communist holiday, the New York Times published an opinion piece celebrating the American communists of the twentieth century, arguing that communism – an ideology that has killed 100 million people – gave Americans a “sense of one’s own humanity.”
The column, titled, “When Communism Inspired Americans,” lionizes communism as a religion with a “founding myth” that helped the “educated middle class” feel relevant in national politics. The author, Vivian Gornick, quotes her mother expressing gratitude for communists and crediting them with America’s thriving republic.

Save for a passing reference to the Soviet Union, however, the article fails to mention how communism ravaged the democratic order of every country it touched, leaving a trail of millions of bodies in its wake. The article also fails to mention the New York Times‘ role in helping promote communism globally, from publishing lies about Soviet genocide to fabricating news stories about Fidel Castro. [MORE]

Read this a few days ago and threw it into the trash.  But it gnawed on me, so I dug it out. The NYT has a long history of shilling for Lenin/Stalin.  Walter Duranty, the paper's Moscow correspondent famously never mentioned the murder of millions by the Commie bastids.  He did, hpwever,  wax eloquently about the the sublimeness of the new religion experiment.

Didn't karl marx write for some New York rag? If so this would explain the socialist inclinations of the New York papers and the cloistered commie communities of New York

I believe it was the NY Post. It was reprinted in seven other papers. Marx had a huge following in 1850 and if you were anyone in NYC you were a member of the NY Socialist Club. The dirtiest secret in American history is the massive change that the post 1848 Germanic immigrants brought to our nation. Read up on the 1848 Marxist revolution and the '48ers. "Red Republicans" is a great place to start. I hear conservative commenters attribute Progressivism to the Wilson era. If they know anything about history, they are being purposely misleading, can't let the stain get on our dear Saint Lincoln. -Anymouse
