"The first nine patents were very driver assist-centered helping reduce driver distractions." And then she does this...
"The button, using Bluetooth, connects to your smartphone and activates when you push the button. Each button press can signify different actions or events like a known tricky turn."
That's just what we need - more assholes distracted by a button and a smartphone while maneuvering in traffic.
How about using the computer between the driver's ears, after some good, tough, lengthy training and a tough, meaningful driver's license test? Naaahh - can't have that. Half the fucking air-headed, mechanically disinclined applicants would never qualify to get a license. That would lose too much government revenue and lower car sales.
Arrggggghhhh.

Agree. Folks are not learning how to drive in terms of steering, car handling, awareness, etc.

My mother got a new car and was amazed that there wasnt a radio but an interface to your phone. That means in my state it is against the law to change radio channels.

Sounds like she's gaming the system. The article states that she met and worked directly with patent lawyers to develop her ideas. You can patent almost anything with the right language. I have a few myself, so no big deal unless you or your company can actually use them to make money. A mobile app on your phone to determine if there's enough room to make a u-turn? Yup, that's going change my mind on which car I want to buy. Sure.

Is there an engineer in the world that on day one doesn't sign an agreement that all inventions are the intellectual property of the employer? If she's an employee she doesn't have any patents. -Anymouse

Training is the key. Start them young on bicycles, then tiny 4 stroke dirt bikes in a flat dirt field. then move up to golf carts with lights and turn signals, on a paved private course. Pass that part, and their first powered street vehicle is a moped. Then a scooter. By then they will understand not only how to shift gears, but have a great awareness of how vulnerable they are. After a year of that, the survivors can start learning how to drive crappy little cars. AM radio, 5 speed manual, no power anything. Nothing to do but drive. No distractions and no isolation.

I waited about twice that long before getting my first patent. Kudos to her for not only finding her passion early, but for finding a company with the resources to help her pursue it.
They may sound silly, but over time, she will hit some that will make a noticeable difference in our everyday lives.

When I was young, I wanted to be either and inventor or an astronaut, now I'm too old to be the latter.
