NRA has had businesses leave because of political pressure. It was done mostly by bots. Just like they have done with Rush Limbaugh. Rush investigated and discovered that it was just 10 people making themselves seem like 10,000 people through electronics. NRA has done NOTHING to generate this hatred, and was uninvolved in the school shooting.

I recommend NRA take the same approach as Rush did. Rush found there were advertisers who left him, but wanted to come back later. Rush would not allow it. They were never allowed back. Every one of the businesses that succumbed to the leftist pressure should be barred from future business with NRA. Ever. And NRA should maintain and publish a list of businesses who left under pressure. Let the membership know who they are.

If they want to cut relations with NRA and its members, they better mean it.

Oh, I don't do boycotts. OTOH, I don't spend money with people that do. Just killed my account with First National of Omaha.

Had an NRA Visa card from Omaha National Bank ever since it's been available, been a club member with Enterprise for longer than I can remember, had a Hertz #1 card forever.

Thanks for the list, Rodger, I'll be busy next week closing accounts.

Whether these companies care what I do, I have no clue, nor do I care, my money, however little or much, will go elsewhere. And, I'm with Skoonj - if they ever want to come back they can fuck off; I'd hope the NRA would be smart enough to inform them of that, perhaps a bit more politely, of course, but still in easily understood one syllable words.

Which is why Rush is truly "The Man"

The only one of these companies that we do business with is/was Wyndhams. In response, I just sent this to them through my account.

"This is to notify you to shut down my account immediately in response to Wyndham's announcement to no longer associate with the NRA.

I've stayed in my last Wyndham chain hotel."

I lied. I also "had" an AVIS account. Not any more. Cancelled.

With all the foliage stripped away I believe Rush's response was pretty much "Fuck off; I've got companies waiting in line to advertise on my show."

The silver lining to this story may well be ironic: a lot of people are announcing, on Twatter & Fakebook, that they have just joined the NRA! A great many are also denouncing these companies, and asking them what part of gun safety training they object to (that's one of the NRA's biggest expenditures: training and safety promotions such as the extremely successful Eddie Eagle program for young school children.)

I am proud to be a Patron Member of the NRA. Our "Women on Target" program has also been extremely successful, and has taught hundreds of thousands of women how to handle a firearm safely.

It's amazing to watch, as many of these women have never even held a gun at all before this training, yet afterward just watch them shred that target! The smiles on their faces are incredible! (Don't tell the guys- but most women are easier to train to shoot well. They don't have so many bad habits to unlearn!)

It's my hope that the NRA will gain membership; it's sad that so very many gunowners don't think the NRA is adamant enough, so don't join. I just voted in the NRA Board of Directors election, so I directly affect who is running the joint: I wish some of those Fudds would step up to the plate and do the same!

I don't know the financial relationship between the companies and NRA. I don't know, for instance, if they provide money to the organization, or are simply providing discounts to NRA members. If the latter is the case, they are really cooking their own goose, since NRA members not given a discount will take their business elsewhere. That's not the same as the advertisers that Rush kicked in the teeth after they left. The companies providing discounts to NRA members may well have kicked themselves in the teeth.

Here is a statement by NRA. It doesn't sound like they are caving.

NRA - National Rifle Association of America
NRA STATEMENT ON CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS

(FAIRFAX, VA) – The more than five million law-abiding members of the National Rifle Association have enjoyed discounts and cost-saving programs from many American corporations that have partnered with the NRA to expand member benefits.

Since the tragedy in Parkland, Florida, a number of companies have decided to sever their relationship with the NRA, in an effort to punish our members who are doctors, farmers, law enforcement officers, fire fighters, nurses, shop owners and school teachers that live in every American community. We are men and women who represent every American ethnic group, every one of the world’s religions and every form of political commitment.

The law-abiding members of the NRA had nothing at all to do with the failure of that school’s security preparedness, the failure of America’s mental health system, the failure of the National Instant Check System or the cruel failures of both federal and local law enforcement.

Despite that, some corporations have decided to punish NRA membership in a shameful display of political and civic cowardice. In time, these brands will be replaced by others who recognize that patriotism and determined commitment to Constitutional freedoms are characteristics of a marketplace they very much want to serve.

Let it be absolutely clear. The loss of a discount will neither scare nor distract one single NRA member from our mission to stand and defend the individual freedoms that have always made America the greatest nation in the world.

A few youngsters bot-Tweeting from Mom's basement on the urging of Michael Bloomberg's $50,000,000 everytown.org or productive, mostly affluent NRA members.

They chose poorly
