Trying this again ...

CARD CHECK

Beginning at 10Am, we've had call after call from each of every medical provider we use, or have used.   You probably have/will too.  The reason for the call is to warn that beginning the end of April, Medicare will have mailed new ID cards, and it will be necessary to log in with it.

Brilliant.

That means that every Medicare user, about 50% of whom are using (IMO) phony ID, will be off the dole!  There will be the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

About time.  We are not (yet) a communist nation.  I don't want to sound harsh, but maybe they should migrate instead to places like Cuba. Or Mexico, which .... Oh.  Right.

Since I retired a year ago, I've lived in trepidation that my experience with Federal Medicine would be as bad as my Dad's was some fifty years ago. So far, my interactions have been reasonable and the few problems I've had have been minor and quickly set right.

BUT...

This is a monstrous government agency born in the age of dinosaurs, controlled by mindless minions with little oversight or control and even less direction. Their Prime Directive has been to spend money, great and ever increasing mountains of money, and to resist change at all costs.

So now they embark on a seemingly simple test of issuing new i.d.'s with the stated goal of "controlling waste and fraud."

Same dinosaur, same minions, same lack of control and guidance, same Prime Directive.

Dad, I don't think this is going to end well.

7. If you’re in a Medicare Advantage Plan (like an HMO or PPO), your Medicare Advantage Plan ID card is your main card for Medicare—you should still keep and use it whenever you need care. However, you also may be asked to show your new Medicare card, so you should carry this card too.

The new card changes nothing for the smart retirees like me who subscribe to Medicare Advantage. The Medicare card, like the Social Security card, is now carried by few people since both contain your Social Security number.

But sadly, in the end, we may have another number to memorize - since providers will not be able to insist on the new card in place of the Advantage card. So go out and convert to Medicare Advantage immediately - you likely will save money.

As for getting illegals off the Medicare rolls - consider that obtaining illegal SS and Medicare cards was easy - as will also be the case with the new card. And sadly, these cards are likely costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

How odd. They have you log in to, say, refill a prescription but require a Medicare number? Weird.
