Italian Court to decide if Jesus lived

Falling
Last year the Discovery Channel  ran a program that promised to find "Who Killed King Tut."   It struck me as way hubristical for the producers to, not just decide 3000 years after the fact  that a murder had occurred, but feel they could solve the crime [the butler].  Are you kidding me?  We can't even agree that O.J. Simpson killed Nicole 10 years ago, or discover who sneaked into the White House living quarters, and dropped Hillary's Rose Law Firm billing records on her kitchen table? Sheesh. If that was the epitome of hubris, then what is this?
Did Jesus exist? Italian court to decide
An Italian court is tackling Jesus — and whether the Roman Catholic Church may be breaking the law by teaching that he existed 2,000 years ago.
 <snip>

"I started this lawsuit because I wanted to deal the final blow against the Church, the bearer of obscurantism and regression," Cascioli told Reuters.

Cascioli says Righi, and by extension the whole Church, broke two Italian laws. The first is "Abuso di Credulita Popolare" (Abuse of Popular Belief) meant to protect people against being swindled or conned. The second crime, he says, is "Sostituzione di Persona," or impersonation.

"The Church constructed Christ upon the personality of John of Gamala," Cascioli claimed, referring to the 1st century Jew who fought against the Roman army.

A court in Viterbo will hear from Righi, who has yet to be indicted, at a January 27 preliminary hearing meant to determine whether the case has enough merit to go forward.

"There'll probably still be a geographical area on the map marked as Italy or the Netherlands--probably--just as in Istanbul there's still a building called St. Sophia's Cathedral. But it's not a cathedral; it's merely a designation for a piece of real estate." -- It's the Demography, Stupid

I read about this lawsuit in a Canadian paper on the way home from Quebec yesterday. It seems this Italian atheist wrote a book 'that proved' that Jesus never existed and now thinks the church has the burden to prove Jesus really did exist. Crazy!

I'd a thought you'd be speaking French to us for a few days? Tell me how much Canadians love us.
