Nagin's imbecility aside, anyone who entered Washington, D.C. in the late 70's - early '80's, by way of New York Ave., was was greeted with sign that said "Welcome to Chocolate City." The first time I saw it, I was certain it was the work of racist vandals, and would be removed. Nope. I never heard it mentioned on the radio, nor in the press. It was just there. FYI. |

I remember that and felt the same way. Seems to me it was some DC bureaucrat's idea; e.g., Marion Barry or similar idiot, to raise "black awareness and pride or some such racist BS.
In the 60's-70's, the line in the DC area was "What's the longest bridge in the world? Ans: The 14th Street bridge; it goes from Virginia to Africa."
