I love praying mantis. As a child I would take great joy in picking them up. I don't do that any more. Last one bit my finger - much blood! Here is a picture of one grabbing a humming bird (http://www.birdwatchersdigest.com/site/backyardbirds/hummingbirds/mantis-hummer.aspx) that explains says it all. Give them respect.
