It never occured to me before that there were people who didn't know that.

Well, IIRC (it's been years since I followed any American comics), Colossus wasn't a communist by choice -- he was a Soviet Russian experiment, after all, and didn't exactly choose to be a communist. I'd consider his religon 'Russian Patriot' rather then full-out Communist. Then again, he wasn't one of my favorites -- just someone I saw in the rare occasion I picked up a crossover comic book involving him -- so my knowledge of just how much he bought into the communist system is a bit suspect.
I never followed Green Arrow, but I knew to avoid it anyway. He was pretty much the sixties hippies' superhero, anyway.
The only American comics I ever TRIED to follow were Superman, Spiderman, and JLA... before I realized that all American comic books sucked -- not because the authors or artists were necessarily bad, but because the system DC Comics and Marvel established for thier comics being constantly passed down to other authors, thereby necessitating a 'the story can almost never GO anywhere, decisively, and so there will never be any resolution whatsoever' style of writing. So, following the politics\religon of any one character is useless... because what they are now might change (except in rare cases) next year, when the new author takes over.
That said, I DO still like the basic story of Superman, Spiderman, and JLA... and even Batman, back before he became a drunk on the edge of madness (thank you, Frank Miller... grr). But, well, those are... rarely very political. - 3/25/06, 11:54 PM
