The death of Oakliegh

Holy crap! The kid's coming for the body
Mother Superior woke this morning with an evaluation of what happened to Oakliegh's head.

The story that Oak bit someone, thus necessitating her beheading for rabies testing, does not wash.  Oakliegh was paralyzed with probable encephalitis, and was besides wearing her tags - which showed she had all her shots.  Here's MS's theory ...

The vet is an animal neurologist, and he wanted to study Oak's brain. He had earlier expressed the unique nature of Oakliegh's condition, and told Hucker that the closest thing he'd seen to this was a case of botulism 11-12 years prior.   There is nothing wrong with wanting to advance the science, if this was the case, and Hucker would have agreed to allow it in a heartbeat, had he been asked.  MS guesses that the vet didn't want to risk refusal, or even excuse part of his several thousand dollar fee in return for permission.  That would explain why they were surprised when Huck said he was coming to get the body.  ''Holy crap Doctor! The kid's coming for the body.''

By the bye, if it was me I'd pursue it by calling the county, and asking whether they had ordered the brain for a mandatory rabies check.  If they said, ''WTF are you talking about,'' I'd be driving that guy's BMW next week. Oakliegh would say woof-woof.

I'd say MS' theory makes alot of sense. If this vet had a record of all the shots given to Oakliegh- that should have been sufficient. The idea that a gentle dog would have suddenly roused herself to bite someone seemed too convenient.

Give them hell!

That's just the way I saw it, too. The Vet just didn't think Huck would want to take Oak home so he pulled a fast one. I'd own him,I really would, just to make a point. I'm so sorry.

Were it my dog the Doc would be lucky if I didn't claim he bit someone and have his head removed.

Ditto what everyone else said. Yesterday your family was devasted by the loss. After a night of 'sleeping on it' MS's light bulb lit up. Good thinkin' there. Juice

This really angers me...

I have never heard of anything like it...

Does this vet have a 'Vote for the Flip Flopper' sticker on his car?

Agreed. You take my dogs head I take your BM'er. Sounds like a fair trade to me.

BTW the vet isn't from the Middle East by any chance?

Something seemed suspicious.
The only counter to that is that in early stages, encep. can cause "hyperactivity". But if this is the vet that provided the shots, why the need for more tests?
And why not keep the body whole and return it after the test?

Make some calls and talk to some people.
Write the stuff down now - in a notebook - so the details don't become confused.
Request copies of phone records so that you can detail times and dates and keep everything in order.

Own his ass, Rodge. Not only will you be creating justice -- you'll be preventing someone else from going through a similar horror.

I'd hafta be held back physically.

Proper/commonly accepted procedures/standards of care can be obtained from the Veterinary Board at the state level.

OWN that bastard, Rodge. Make him pay. IknowIknow -- it's Huck's decision.... Still -- the Board oughta know...

*hugs* to the whole family

I've been dealing with connectivity problems so this is the first I've learned of the dog's death, which is always a rough thing. However, this vet thing is unbelievable.

Damn!

Huck will let it go, and not let it eat him up. Smart kid - he didn't get that from me.
