A Fumbled Opportunity
Greg Sheffield reports [Democrat Wins 'West Wing' Presidential Race; Show Cancelled] that ''the Democrat won the fictional presidential race on NBC's final episode of "The West Wing." But the show's writers insist it has nothing to do with the fact that none of them is Republican.'' Oh, stab me in the liver, why don't you?  These peeps are hilarious, but what an opportunity they missed.

First a disclaimer.  I  never watched even a minute of that show.  Zero.  Still, I do know from reading, and listening, that liberals lived vicariously through President Sheen.  Here's what they should have done.  Let the Republican win!  That's right.  The original West Wing storyline had an inherent flaw.  Democrats have no clue about how to run the country from the Oval Office.  The last Democrat to get an  aircraft carrier named for himself - a good bellwether of presidential performance - was Kennedy.  Carter got a submarine, but  then, even loser Mondale got a laundry ship.  Don't be holding your breath for a CVN-92 CLINTON

What they do excel at is sniping at Republican presidents.  I don't know who portrayed the losing Republican on West Wing, but it should have been Charlie Sheen, and he should have won.  Think of the fun the show's writers could have had with that.  Hell, they could have purloined Clinton's White House record for script material.  Drugs, sex, rape, treason, incompetence, impeachment.  Holy crap, this was an Emmy waiting to happen.  Too bad they're so stupid.

I don't get the sub thing. Every submariner I've known hated that shit bag. The O gangers say his foreay into Nuke power school was a farse, much like the purple heart thing of horse face.

I think the Sec Navy makes the determination.

Even Theodore Roosevelt had a boat named after him before he had a carrier named after him (SSBN 600). Just sayin' after the revisionists get through with Jimmah, he may be a candidate for a carrier in 40 or 50 years. And as an old submariner, I was sickened when they annouced the USS Peanut Farmer.

Correction. The actor who played the RINO candidate that lost the election was Alan Alda.

I'm embarassed to admit that I actually watched the show occasionally. But then I watch car races for the crashes, hockey for the fights, kids soccer for the ball in the face shots and America's Funniest Home Videos for the bat to the groin videos. Watching West Wing was like picking at a scab. You know you shouldn't but it itches and you are curious if it has healed under there. Then after you do, it hurts.
