Using Layers

Photo Shop 101

Somebody asked how I did the book in the bag for the Hewitt contest.  There are lots of ways, but this is what I did. I use Paint Shop Pro 9, but any decent photo shop program will have the same tools.
I put a book in a shopping bag and took a picture of it.  This is quicker than finding an existing picture on the web, and way easier than hand applying the highlights.
Create a new transparent layer.
Using the selection tool, outline the book
Rotate the new book cover to match - this time it was about 40° right.
''Paste into selection''
In layer properties I tried different things before settling on "Soft Light" which gave me the desired effect.
