A.M. Rosenthal - a decent man

A. M. Rosenthal Is Dead at 84; Innovative Editor of The Times

May 11, 2006, Thursday
Late Edition - Final, Section A, Page 1, Column 2, 4194 words
I meant to do this last week, but .. didn't.  When I read this lede into the Times obituary for A.M. Rosenthal I cynically thought "Innovative to these schmucks, maybe, as anyone with integrity would be.''  In 1997 Rosenthal penned an editorial, ''We Never Knew,'' that many thought was the death knell for the Clintons.  It would have been for any Republican.  Still, I think there was a subtle change in how media Clintoids behaved after that, as if they were wary of another attack from their rear.  Who on today's Times' editorial board has the integrity to commit such apostasy?  Answer = nobody.  That's what's become of the old New York Times. It died before he did.
