At first I shuddered, then saw the attribution. Ya got me! :>D
Could be the DEA guy who shot himself in the foot while addressing an elementary school class on gun safety.

Never underestimate stupidity. You guys may not want to believe this but I swear it's the truth. I was at the outdoor police range getting my 100-a-month in, and saw one of the officerswithout hearing protection. I motioned to him and shouted "ears on?" (shorthand for 'where's your hearing protection, numbnuts?') and he came over and showed me what I'm certain he believed to be a clever trick.
He had forgotten or lost his foam insert hearing protection. So he stuffed a live 38 bluntnose shell in each ear canal!
Now, I've heard of soldiers, in time of war, putting a SPENT shell casing into their ear in an attempt to mute the roar of riflefire, but never a loaded bullet! (Footnote- that was back when the Army fired real rifles... 30.06! None of this .223 candyass modern stuff.) Besides, that was a time of war on foreign soil. This was target practice.
I thanked him for the tip and promptly got the hell out of there. Probably should have reported him to the range officer in charge, but I wanted to make some distance before he demonstrated something else equally stupid and dangerous like some novel unloading method involving a hammer, etc. Never saw the guy again. Dunno whether he quit, was fired, transferred, or had some mishap with his earplugs. I like to think he was simply a guest on the range from another county. But you never know. -
