My army troop was learning how to parachute from a plane. At 12,000 feet, our drill instructor shouted out instructions for surviving a jump from above the clouds at more than 200 m.p.h. A young recruit raised his hand and asked, "Once we jump out, how much time do we have to pull the cord?"
