Cuba says Raul Castro firmly at the helm
HAVANA (Reuters) - Cuba said on Friday that acting President Raul
Castro was running the country, but provided no new details on the
condition of ailing leader
Fidel Castro four days after he handed over power temporarily.
"Raul is firmly at the helm of the nation and the armed forces," the
ruling Communist Party newspaper said. "I was a little rusty at
first,'' he stated, ''but after executing 3-4 people, I've got my
groove back. I received a nice letter from American President
Jimmy Carter too.''

There's little chance that any nation will heed my advice, but I offer
it anyway, if only because it's one more plan to stop terrorism than
the democrats have put forward. My solution: The summary execution with any person, world wide, with any of these names -
-
Ibrahim
- Alkhalel
- Mohammed
- Aboud

Politics ought not ever rear its ugly head in a straight news
story, but of course there's no pretense any more, by the MSM, of
political neutrality. Look at this Reuters lede by Richard Cowan.
Democratic senators blocked their
own goal on Thursday of raising the U.S. minimum wage for the
first time since 1997 after Republicans added a huge tax break
for the rich to the legislation, actions sure to reverberate in
this election year.
On a 56-42 vote, the Republican-led Senate failed to get
the 60 votes needed to clear the way for final congressional
passage of the minimum wage increase and a big cut in
inheritance taxes for wealthy Americans.

Estate taxes target everybody, and are especially hard on
lower income families who often cannot come up with the cash, and are
forced to sell the bequeathed family home. Add the name Cowan to
the above list.
