Unreported Valor
August 3, 2006; Page A6

The alleged Marine massacre at Haditha is back in the news this week. Anonymous Pentagon sources told AP that a probe supports the massacre narrative. But Marine Sargeant Frank Wuterich filed a defamation suit against Congressman John Murtha, who on May 17 described "cold blood" killings at Haditha.

Bing West, a former assistant defense secretary, reflected on Haditha in a recent piece about the war's course for the July issue of the Proceedings of the U.S. Naval Institute:

"The Iraq war is being played out against a backdrop of bitter partisan politics in the United States. Of those on the front lines, 70% get out after four years of service, with no long-term benefits. All they want is praise for their valor and service. They want to be able to say. 'I served at Fallujah, Najaf, or Mosul' and be respected for their dedication.

"Their valor is absent from this war because it is not reported. In Fallujah for instance, 100 Marine squads engaged in 200 firefights in cement rooms, using rifles, pistols, grenades and knives. By any historical comparison, this was extraordinary. In Hue City in 1968, there was one fight inside a house. In the entire history of the SWAT teams in the United States, there have not been 200 fights with automatic weapons inside rooms. Yet the courage of our soldiers and Marines in battles in Fallujah, Najaf, etc. received little press notice. Now we face the test of whether the press will place the tragedy of Haditha in perspective, or whether Haditha will unfairly become a false symbol....

"What happens if the youth of America adopt the same fractious attitudes as their political leaders? Who then will serve? In the tone of our criticisms while we are at war, we as a nation should be very careful that we do not undercut our own martial resolve. If we as a nation lose heart, who will fight for us?"

Democrats hope to regain control of Congress this year, and the White House two years hence. How, I wonder, do people who will not follow, expect to lead? The climate Democrats have created in this country is so poisonous that some people (to use the Drive-by Media'favorite device for injecting personl feelings into the news)see little difference between Democrats and al-Qaeda.

This is where the reader gives the Host *clap*clap*clap* and a 10!! Great link, great subject, great comment.

The sadest part of all of this, is the Dems and PinkoPress are leading and promoting a VietNam playbook. The are hamstringing our soldiers from success, by: expecting them to respond to war zone situations like police actions (ring a bell?)in American inner cities; condemning their efforts as crimes; and including, sympathizing w/the enemy. It is no secret that they speak from one side of their mouths to say "we support the troops not the war," and will call for prosecution hearings out the other side - equal to spitting on VietNam soldiers returning to home,USA.

I don't like hating *people*, but I can't find a negative term strong enough to describe how much I can't what they do and what they *stand?* for. Thanks for this post, Rodger. Juice

outstanding again Mr. S...

well said and downright sad...

who can trust the claims of those from the ME anyhow?

the US Men and Women in the Armed Forces are amazing, and are treasured...

the MSM produced endless demeaning, slander against this President during the first term, and was reelected overwhelmingly despite the 'con'.

a sign the Majority of the Country is not following the blind...

The Sunday after 9/11, Andy Rooney remarked on 60 Minutes "The terrorists have done us much damage, but not, I suspect, as much as we will do to ourselves."
Whether or not that's what he meant, it perfectly describes what we are seeing now in our thoroughly poisoned politics. We are living in perilous times, and the peril is not all in the Middle East.

My two grandsons are coming of age, I shudder to think of them having to serve under the feckless administration of say a Kucinichovich, Pelosovich, Big Murtha or the likes of Hilary, Kerry or the madman Dean. Administrations where volunteer forces will fall and conscription will be forced to take it's place, where the troops will face murder charges for even thinking of firing back if fired upon, yet they'll be expected to suppress their own kind under the forced enslavement of Communism. Just look at how they treat our troops now and imagine how they'll be treated if the Dims get back in power.

I said 2 months into the war the Democraps would try to do to these young people the same thing they did to us in Vietnam. It is to the point that Democraps are a plague on this nation and an asset to those that seek our demise.History will note there treachery and the undoing of a once great nation.

In Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, we were taught that warfare is only successful when you remove or cause the enemy to give up the will to fight.Anything else is a bunch of crap. The Isrealis must have went to the same school.
Along the same line, kinda. Ever seen a dog fight, no the two dogs having a tussle, I mean a fight where one dies. My Aunt and Uncle had a dog named treu, which is German for True, pronounced Troy. They lived in a rural setting abutting statr lands. The dog was a border collie-collie mix and was very good at containg my three cousins and my self within the property. I was about 7 when a 4-pack of dogs came sniffing around Troy did his job, but got one of the worst beatings I've ever seen a creature live through. He went to the Vet and was nursed for a month in the house before he demanded to be let out. He then proceeded to bring home a corpse every few days til those dogs were no more, left them in the street at the end of the drive. I think Isreal and that dog think the same. And god bless.

This reminds me of an older article in The Weekly standard. 'A war without Heroes? Only if you listen to the MSM' It was written by Fred Barnes, and mentioned the fact that the MOH awarded to Paul Ray Smith got piss for coverage, and blamed this 'war without valor' on the lack of note of it. Even Vietnam had it's heroes (Duke Cunningham ironically being one of them) in the press, so this is unbelievable. Fortunately, I never think there will be a shortage of American youths to step up and defend our nation...To be quite honest, we all either don't pay attention to the news, or don't let assholes dictate our outlooks.

O'course there are many, many exceptions to that...But do we really want people that weak willed and easily swayed fighting for us anyway?

The Democrats have placed themselves in a position where we have to lose.

For the Democrats to win - America has to lose - and lose big. And the more dead americans the better for the Donks!

Kerry,Kennedy, Muthra, and Pol all salivate at the thought of more dead americans. All so that they can say 'I told you so!'

Fkin Vultures!
