A big boat, and a little boat

''She is unrelenting, she is unshakable, she is unyielding ... "
Arlington, Va., The Pentagon, Dec. 9, 2002— Former President George H.W. Bush (center), the 41st President of the United States examines a model of CVN-77, the U.S. Navy’s 10th Nimitz-class aircraft carrier officially named USS George H.W. Bush by The Honorable Gordon England, Secretary of the Navy, at a ceremony held in the Pentagon. Also attending was former President Jimmy Carter.

Family Christens USS George H.W. Bush

"I know you join me in saying to our father, President Bush, your ship has come in," the current president said during a ceremony for the last of the Nimitz-class carriers, the CVN 77.

"She is unrelenting, she is unshakable, she is unyielding, she is unstoppable," Bush said, lauding the warship's state-of-the-art design before pausing for a punch line aimed at his mother's well-known steely constitution. "As a matter of fact, probably should have been named the Barbara Bush."

That photo is reprehensible and should be purged. I understand that from time to time, everyone seems to enjoy a good laugh at someone else's expense, but enough is enough. Some things must remain sacrosanct. The man whom you so unflatteringly depict is a true American hero. He has given - and continues to give - selflessly of himself for the benefit of the global community and he epitomizes all that is good about this country. The desecration of his image as depicted in that photograph is disgusting and goes beyond the pale. I mean, sheesh, showing the Commandant of the Marine Corps wearing a sailor cap and standing beside that feckless buffoon with the little toy submersible is just too much.

Wah-wah- wah. Aren't you just the brave little crybaby? I guess you told us all off huh? Of course it might have been slightly more effective had you identified yourself.

Ya think? How can you tell? Because no one is really that stupid?

MM - You're right. My comment was tongue in cheek. I wasn't really defending Carter, nor was I excoriating Rodger for photoshopping his mug, even though you were supposed to think that's where I was going as you read through the comment. My apologies if that didn't become clear after reading the last sentence and if my attempt at humor fell flat.

TFV does makes a good point - even though most comment here anonymously, regular readers (and I am one) probably should sign off with some sort of distinctive identifier, lest you get the impression the remark is just a troll dropping left by some drive-by Lefty.

I can understand how TFV was fooled, my mind was racing ahead, trying to think of a good retort (The best I could come up with was, "Oh yeah, well the jerkstore called and they're running out of you.").
Good one

I think I need a vacation-- you see I work for a medium sized university and unfortunately I could too easily hear that coming out of the mouths of some of the faculty I deal with.

Rodger- I like that retort- have to keep it in mind sometime!

I will have to say I do not know how 43 who I respect can stand there next to that sorry CS rat bastard that constantly vilifies him and his son The current President. He is a better person than I because I would be wanting to cram his weird teeth down his throat.

Do you mean ''41?'' But never fear Jack, the picture is a photoshop. GHWB hates Carter's guts, the same as all Americans do. (Yes, I'm suggesting that if you don't despise Jimmy Carter, you're a neo-American, aka ratbastard MFCS - In the good way, of course).

While one never likes to see the Commandant sucking up to sailors, it's fitting that 41 gets a carrier named after him. Now maybe the navy can rent a cruise ship to park off the coast of Iraq, name it the Clinton, and stuff it with sex workers so our boys can get a little R&R during their tours.
