In his column today, WaPoster Howard Kurtz examines Fox News, and honcho Roger Ailes [The Right Man For Fox News].  Here's a snippet. ''Despite its "fair and balanced" mantra, Fox is widely viewed as conservative, with nearly seven in 10 national journalists in a 2004 survey citing it as an especially conservative news outlet. ''And Fox sometimes puts its thumb on the scale. When Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez was attacking President Bush, the network ran such on-screen graphics as "Chavez Insults U.S.: Where's the Outrage?" "Taking Cheap Oil From Hugo Chavez: Act of Treason?" and "New York Audience Gives Chavez Standing Ovation . . . Why?" By inference, and without any sense of the irony, Kurtz questions the fair and balanced "mantra," and immediately answers it by noting that ''nearly seven in 10 national journalists see at as "an especially conservative news outlet."   To make his point, and still unaware that his fly is open, Howie uses a Chyron defense of the President of the United States, who was attacked by a madman, and sworn enemy of the United States, to demonstrate Fox News' self incriminating clumsiness.  This is the end product of a man who, I believe, tries harder than most anyone in the Driveby Media to find balance.  When you're a buzzard, everything that's not looks like lunch waiting to happen.
