O'Reilly on Oprah

O'Reilly on Oprah
Last night we watched what Oprah called her antidote for an earlier Frank Rich appearance.  Okay, she used ''response,'' but snake bites require antidotes, and she chose Bill O'Reilly  (showing the clip where he questioned the veracity of Mr. Rich after his appearance).

Don't sneer folks.  Many, many Americans get nearly 100% of their political socialization via Oprah.  My take on her is she's a genuine person, who tries.  At heart Oprah is a staunch liberal, but willing to attempt fairness.  I think her very civil behavior (acceptance) when Dubya was her guest (during the 2000 campaign)  was crucial to his election.  She is a political force, although one that can explode at times (Katrina).

Anyway, O'Reilly was as good as you'll probably get in this type of forum.  That is to say, he's glib, self effacing, and does not back down.

O'Reilly:  [Frank Rich] is a Bush hater.

Oprah:  He says he's not.

Me:  LMFAO

O'Reilly: Believed by anyone who's never read his column.

Not a direct quote, but substantially on target. There were two- maybe three ACLU activists/apologists in the audience, and he was, I thought, effective in explaining that this organization -of perhaps the filthiest group of Americans extant-  is  nothing more today than a gaggle of left-wing political activists.

The most effective audience comments came from a young Black American.  During one exchange he noted that FOX news was the only venue where the ''right questions'' were asked of interviewees. In another, he opined that Iraq has served as a magnet, drawing terrorsts from around the world to confront us there, and not here.  Clap-clap-clap.

There was even an All-American pasty faced (really), America hating bitch (whom both of us wanted to see vigorously face slapped) in the audience.  Her diatribe included all the official DNC talking points, including Cheney getting rich off Haliburton's involvement in Iraq.  She was dismissed with  an O'Reilly eye roll, not worthy of  retort.

thanks...
must be helpful to break the lib bias for a change.

my problem with Mr. O, is his constant attempt to equate and play the 'middle'.

this would be fine with me, except in doing so, i feel he has raised expectations for the use of military force to unrealistic levels.

his backseat carping, about generic mistakes, serves no one, especially when this man knows full well the historical context of battle.

besides, the casualties remain record lows, and more troops might have meant more American Losses, which is not the point of the Mission, ie: we are not there to insure the safety of an f'n Iraqi Museum etc...

a man of his background and stature should have known of the difficulty involved, context of military engagement, especially in the heart of the ME.

he advocated for the invasion of Iraq, and isn't willing to take the shots for the negative, and tries to deflect blame on others.

he acts sometimes like should be a trip to the tailor, and this lack of objective nature, undermines the GWOT, and future missions when force is absolutely necessary.

this is not a two hour TV production, that gets wrapped up nicely for airing. hell, the Israelis stilll cannot stop suicide bombers, after decades of trying. In fact, the Israeli incursion into S. Lebanon, should remind Bill, just how incredibly impressive the US ARMED SERVICES have been in IRAQ.

Thank you, Rodger, for your brave service for America. I saw these Oprah shows advertised and couldn't make myself watch. It is to puke too often.

I agree with Bill on somethings and on others I do not. I will have to say he is fairer than most of the creeps in the news media. I was pissed at him about his attitude about the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. He did not and I guess still does not understand that these are men of honor and what that means. He was kind of dismissive of them like it was just politics it was not about that at all it was about getting the truth out about Kerry. Many of the swifties were democrats.
