The Hidden Persuaders by Vance Packard. Hot stuff when it came out. Cooled a bit when found to be Mr Packard's wishful thinking....

In about 1990, Pepsi had a line of cans (possibly Diet Pepsi) which, when stacked on top of each other, clearly and unmistakeably spelled out "sex" in big letters. The cans were white, with apparently random red and blue lines running around them. Random, that is, until you stacked them...

a book was published about just such things, called "Subliminal Seduction" I don't know if it is still available but if it is, it is a good read with many print examples.
