Been a big Bond fan since I started reading Ian Fleming when I was 9 years old and he was still writng the books.
I saw Casino Royale and this guy owns Bond now, best ever film and he is the best Bond. No quips, gags, gadgets. He plays Bond as Bond was meant to be. In the books he is a ruthless assasin, not some bon-de-bon gadfly. While there is a bit of this in the early Connery, the character got way off track. It descended to camp, very distressing to a fan. Painful to watch.

The high watermark, IMO, was "From Russia with Love." The beginning of the gadgetry, but acceptable. And hey, you guys all speak with a brit/aussie/scot accent? I don't think so. Anyway, without saying too much, it was originally "Schlong Ace of Spies"
