Minimum Wage

Our Golden Shower
The minimum wage hike is not yet a done deal, but despite Bush's "warnings," I'd be a fool to expect him to veto anything. Instead, I was thinking about this the other day.  It's something all of you know instinctively, but maybe some 5th grader is out there, and will learn something to forestall any nascent  liberal tendencies.

Our first house was in Camp Springs, MD, which is outside the gates of Andrews AFB.  Like most new homeowners we were always strapped for cash (that never ends, btw) and the tiniest pebble thrown into our financial pool would rock the boat.  Our biggest problem was the military.  We grocery shopped at the Food Fair across from Andrews, and every time they got a pay raise our food prices, hell make that everything,  jumped accordingly. Their purchasing power was soon back to square one, but everyone else was in the hole until they could also wrangle a pay raise. So it is that $50 then is worth $7.52 today.  Of  course, as I've previously mentioned, the minimum wage increase is mostly democrat  party payback to labor unions whose wages are tied to the minimum wage.

Speaking of unions. Currently aprox. 12% of labor in the USA are union members. Of those 50% are members of AFSME. Not UAW, Teamsters, IAM, etc..If you are not familiar with them visit their web site and you can appreciate your tax dollars at work.
