Pelosi and Unions

Speaker Hankey
sPEAKER hANKEY pELOSI
''But unions poured an estimated $104 million directly into the November elections; far more, acknowledges union consultant Jon Tasini, is spent on indirect expenditures that need not be disclosed. Organized labor expects a return on its investment. No proposal is more important than the misnamed "Employee Free Choice Act," which would substitute card check for elections, allowing unions to win legal recognition based on a preliminary, and very public, show of hands. (The legislation also includes other remarkably bad provisions, including compulsory arbitration if an employer and union don't reach an agreement.) Says Stewart Acuff of the AFL- CIO, "We want to remind Congress that this is the AFL-CIO's No. 1 priority." - "The Secret Ballot Destruction Act"

Rush says President Bush will propose a new tax on health benefits to fund an "inclusive" national health care program. I plan to have a window open to hear the wails, screams, howels, gunshots and explosions when he does. Benefits are the grace on which the religion of unionism thrives.

I was wondering...since I never have and never will belong to one... are union dues tied to the amount of salary a union member earns? Is this what is behind the raise in the minimum- if Joe Cardcarrier gets a raise do his dues go up?

Great question.

Unions commonly index their wage contracts to minimum wage rates. The pay of a union worker then is a multiplier of the minimum wage—with hourly wages. Union dues are calclated as a % of the member's pay, so a MW increase not only boosts the union worker's wage, but the dues he forks over the union thugs.

The figures I've seen show that well over 90% of minimum wage earners are teenagers working for weekend pocket money, not single parents (who made bad choices and want you to bail them out).

Like everything democrats do, the minimum wage hike to help the poo is a strawman - a phoney-baloney rock and roll lie.
