Our IT guy here at work says that AdAware is bad for your computer. It's a 'feel good' program that makes you think you are getting rid of unwanted stuff, but he says it actually INSERTS a lot of spyware on your computer.
And I have been using it for several years now...

Ah, good old ICQ (I seek you). IM'ing before IM'ing was even cool. Thanks for the memories, Rodge. Quick search re: AdAware finds only rumors and no facts. Except for this: AdAware is spyware posing as anti-spyware. It turns your monitor into a camera and allows naked pictures to be published by the CIA in Thailand.

My CCleaner regularly identifies and destroys Adaware files.

I don't know fellows..I use AdAware in conjuction with Spybot and get very good service...A while back I wondered if they weren't redundant since I have Norton System Works and Windows Defender & Firewall,so I removed them and was immediately taken over by a hi-jacker that I couldn't get rid of until I did a HP restore...I wont be caught that vulnerable again.

Skype is the only one I haven't used. I know lots of people who swear by it though. I still have ICQ but I no longer know anyone else who does.
Winamp has always been my favorite mp3 player. It's simple, unobtrusive and works well. iTunes is good for mass ID Tag editing and updating my iPod. I don't usually use it for listening to music.
I used Napster until I had all the music I could think of that I wanted. It was shut down shortly after that and then I discovered AudioGalaxy which was worlds better. AG was much more of a social place than Napster and I met many friends there. They introduced me to much good music I otherwise never would have heard. I still curse the RIAA for destroying that wonderful community.
Firefox is vastly superior to Exploder. I never use Exploder to surf the net anymore.
Winzip is good, but I now use WinRar which handles all forms of compression.
I don't use AdAware anymore but I would if I needed it.
RealPlayer will never come anywhere near a computer I own ever again. I have heard that they have fixed most of the issues I had with it, but they have a lot of hoops to jump through before they can atone for the grief that POS put me through. I use Media Player Classic which, combined with the CCCP and the Real Alternative codex packs, plays anything.
Of course, you have to have Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Acrobat sucks. It's slow and it's a resource hog. Get Foxit reader instead...it's free and is so quick that opening a PDF isn't a teeth-gnashing experience.

Interesting that all the comments so for are on this page and not the original link's page.

I use Windows Defender and Norton System Works along with Norton Personal Firewall. I have never had any trouble. But then again I use the new IE7 and I have never had a problem with it.
