Boogers and Toe Nails

Verbatim conversation
Mom
Have you thought about what you're giving up for Lent Peter?
Peter
Yes, I'm giving up video games.
Mom Peter, you won't last 2 days with that.  Why set yourself up for failure?  Pick something that  you can stick to.
Peter
[thinking]  I'll give up ice cream.
Mom Now you've gone to the other extreme.  We only have ice cream twice a month, so that's not giving up anything.
Peter
[thinking] I know, I'll quit picking my nose.  [turning to his older sister] And Jane can give up biting her toe nails.
Jane I don't even do that anymore.  I polish my toe nails now.

HA! Gotta love Lent.// It shows us how feeble we are before Christ.

Our giving up of worldly pleasures, for a short period of time, hardly equates to the giving up of one's Perfect Life for all mankind. Lest we forget...God Bless us one and all. Joyce

The correct response is this:

Peter Yes, I'm giving up video games.

Mom: Peter, you won't last 2 days with that. Why set yourself up for failure? Pick something that you can stick to.

Peter O ye of little faith...

Everyone laughed at my sister's roommate in college when she gave up elevators for lent. But when they realized that she lived on the 10th floor of the dormatory they stopped laughing.

She stuck to it, she lost 14 lbs during lent and learned to be a lot more organized. When you only want to make two round trips per day you learn to plan ahead and take everything you need with you the first time.

By Easter she would join my roommate and I in our stairs races. She never won but she did better than anyone else who challenged us.

Her second year she had four other girls join her. They called it the "lenten stairs diet."
