Rule #1 for Men: Make sure the wife will back you up and smooth things over.

Example. Lets say you are a AG running for Gov'ner of a southern state and Jane Doe #5, etc. etc. etc.. Put some ice on it.

Then Hillary holds her hand, real tight, and reminds her of the good she's doing.
