High stakes poker

I Call
The GOP Raises the Ante
By G. Tracy Mehan, III

  •   The President rejected the recommendations of the Iraq Study Group and proceeded to increase American troops in that theatre.

  • Republican senators blocked a vote on the troop surge, and their counterparts in the House exerted impressive party pressure to limit defections on the anti-surge resolution to only 17 members.

  • Vice President Dick Cheney has noted his difficulty in adhering to Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment ("Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican") in the case of anti-war Senator Chuck Hagel.
  • Neoconservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt is leading a new advocacy group, the Victory Caucus, to target GOP House defectors on the surge issue. Rep. Ric Keller, R-FL who is both anti-abortion and a beneficiary of the anti-tax Club for Growth, is atop the hit list.
  • The debate over the immediate and short-term (two years) conduct of the war seems to have been settled within the Republican Party. The addition of a 20,000 plus combat troops in Iraq, working in unison with a supposedly re-energized Iraqi military, is the favored response to what has been a less than satisfactory campaign in Mesopotamia.
  • Discipline within the GOP is truly a site to behold. Despite predictions of 50, even 60 Republican votes for the Democratic leadership's anti-surge resolution, only a fraction of that number actually voted for it.
<snip>
I like this.  Both sides are in for all the chips.  The winner will be decided by the American people's ability to overcome sneak attacks by the media, and cowerdly acts by the democrats.  I know we will. The loser is finished.

This article is an interesting point of view. Could it be that the very GWOT that the tp (treasonous press) has used to divide the country, will actually become the turning point against the "fecklessness" of the Dems? Is there hope, then, that more of the American public care about our troops than the Dems would have us believe, and are willing to fund and support?

Along these lines - My hero Dick Cheney fired a broadside across Pelosi's bow today. From Fox News:

Cheney used an interview to criticize Pelosi and Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., over their plan to place restrictions on Bush's request for an additional $93 billion for the Iraq war to make it difficult or impossible to send 21,500 extra troops to Iraq.

"I think if we were to do what Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Murtha are suggesting, all we will do is validate the Al Qaeda strategy," the vice president told ABC News. "The Al Qaeda strategy is to break the will of the American people ... try to persuade us to throw in the towel and come home, and then they win because we quit."

Pelosi, at a news conference in San Francisco, said Cheney's criticism of Democrats was "beneath the dignity of the debate we're engaged in and a disservice to our men and women in uniform, whom we all support."

"And you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to call the president and tell him I disapprove of what the vice president said," Pelosi said. "It has no place in our debate." Bush had previously urged her to call him when a member of his administration stepped over the line by questioning Democrats' patriotism, she said.

So the perfidious twat who knows nothing of dignity when it suits her purposes got called on her game, and said "neener neener neener, I'm gonna tell your Daddy." Daddy refused to take her call.
Sweet.

Never ever ever underestimate the depths that the MSM will go to *uck this president. The past 24 hours for example, the reduction in the British forces has been portrayed as the Brits "seeing the light" "Bush's last ally leaving him" "the coalition breaking up" rather than what it was. Southern Iraq is secure and practically violence free, man you sure wouldn't know that from the reporting today.

Did you know Great Britian had, at the beginning of the war, 55,000 troops there? I sure as hell didn't. So they're pulling 1,600 out now, so effing what. But to listen to various MSM reports, it sounded as though the Brits were deserting southern Iraq.

Check out some Iraqi blogs. They are seeing masses of people returning to Baghdad. Hardly any shooting, no suicide bombers. One blogger speaks for many Iraqis when he wonders why the terrorists continue to kill only women and children in markets, just WTF that is going to accomplish other than provide fodder for our MSM. And rather than report the relative calm descending over Baghdad, I'll bet you a doller you heard 50 times today about the whackos that exploded some chorline cannisters.

I don't know what a victory will have to look like for even the ratbastard MSM to have to call it as a victory. You can forget about asshats like Mattews and Obermann ever giving an ounce of credit to W, but really, what's it going to take for them to say Iraq is finally coming around?

Ha! Fooled you. It was a rhetorical question. The MSM will never ever use the word Iraq and victory in the same sentence as long as George W is president. EVER

we can only hope MR. S...

i believed Americans wouldn't empower the Democrat insanity in NOV. 2006.

Conservatives have to get over some imperfections, to stop empowering the liberal Democrats.

well state MM...

the MSM is a joke, and will only be crushed when the DNC is taken down again.

I stated probably 10 years ago that the best thing that could happen to Goverment in this country is the total destruction of the democrat party and any power they have. They should be replaced like the Whigs were replaced. Probably by the Independent party.

You notice Pelosi made a false statement that Cheney questioned ther patriotism. Nothing in his comment suggested that. The woman is a foul liar.Pelosi and her pals can attack and smear the President and his administration at will but if they once defend them self it is partisanship. What a crock.

I do not believe it is conservatives that are empowering the democrat but rather the Republican leadership in the senate that did the empowering. You can not just say I am a conservative and the vote and talk like and act like a liberal left wing democrat and expect conservative voters just to keep kissing you butt. That would be much like the way democrats do Black voter they talk a good game say all the right words that blacks want to hear then screw them over and over. Republican conservatives are not going to be screwed by RINO's period. enough is enough.
