Elizabeth Edwards

Cons

Elizabeth Edwards
Do I have to say that I'm sorry that Elizabeth Edward's cancer has returned in lethal fashion, doubly so for her two young children?  I hope my reputation for curmudgeonry is not so advanced as to leave doubt.  That said, my snarky side was in full tumescence as the saga unfolded.  In the run-up to Edward's press conference yesterday - a press conference, ostensibly called to make an announcement about his campaign, which turned out to be  "I'm still running,"  seemed suspiciously like a cynical ploy to gather sympathy from his wife's situation.

Don't blame me.  Remember Al Gore exploiting his sisters death  for public gain?  Or Paul Wellstone's memorial? I watched Howard Fineman wax eloquent about John's courage (he later put parts of it to words.)..

"Is this a great Democratic presidential campaign, or what? The number of candidate “firsts” keeps growing: first spouse of a former president, first African-American with Ivy League credentials, first  Hispanic-American. And now we have the first candidate—John Edwards—to turn his spouse’s illness, and how he and she are dealing with it, into what he contends is an inspirational metaphor for the brand of leadership he offers the country."

He added that "as near as I can tell, Elizabeth doesn't have a mean bone in her body."  Maybe it's just me, but when she intonated in 2004 that unless her husband and Kerry won the election, there would be riots, I thought I saw one of them bones.

Living, as I do, in a county with Maryland's highest cancer death rate, I've seen way more than my share of friends and acquaintances fall to that black disease.  All of them carried on with their lives as best they could, for as long as they could.  Not one of their spouses committed suicide, or ran away with the circus to escape unfolding tragedy.  None involved were ever called ''heroic'' for trying to take another breath.  I am sorry his wife will suffer this travail, but I think her husband is enough of a punk to milk it.  He's a con-man by profession.

If you happened to accidentally turn on Good Morning America today, you would have seen the MOST retch-inducing drivel lionizing Mrs. Edwards' courage and her husband's undying devotion to her, with her favorite song playing as a backdrop!

Thank goodness her favorite song isn't the theme from "Titanic" with Celine Dion in full bellow!

In my opinion, he does not have much time to milk it. A friend of mine who had recovered from breast cancer discovered 8 years later it had moved to her bones just as it has in Elizabeth's case. My friend was dead 5 months later.

You have to wonder what doctor in their right mind would even treat Elizabeth Edwards for fear of a lawsuit afterward?

I feel bad for her - as most decent people would. And yeah- I agree he made it an issue for political gain.

Yesterday we drove from Wilcox, AZ to Selma, CA attempting to return home. More of the same today. Both of us like talk radio and although it can be hit and miss along the way, hearing this story all damn day was a killer.

Enough already with the John Edwards courage to carry on the campaign "campaign". With all due respect to those who are afflicted with such dread, (yes, my dad died of brain tumor in 6 wks) John Edwards has just out sympathised Hillary big time. The man is a puke and every conservative who spent all damn day wearing their hearts upon their sleeves, just gave the little teet milker free ad space. I do not want to see this guy in the White House because bleedy hearts put him there. Enough already!

I can just about assure anyone that John Rdwards is not going to win the election because of this news conference.I doubt he has much of a chance of winning at all. So if they are using her dreadful illness to try to further that purpose it is domed to failure.People that oppose his stand on the issue's are not going to vote for him because his wife has cancer.

Hey, HillaryNeedsAVacation~~
I'd love to believe your opinion is the correct one, but, hey, Clinton was elected TWICE and the Dems just won the last election. I'm not trusting much in politics these days. Although, I'd still love to believe Bush will actually stand against the Dems. Hope every faithful.:)

You know there's something that just kept bothering but I couldn't put my finger on it. I finally figured it out - if everything is going to go on as usual-- why have a press conference to announce EXCEPT to profit from it.

I mean wouldn't the average person keep it to themself for awhile without immediately making it news?

Thank god! I have found people of my kind! I thought I was all alone. Was nearly beaten to death by the mean PC people on KisP for stating what Juice said.A fine bunch they are,but sacrilege to say this could be to put his tanking presidential run back on top.Boazo

What people don't understand is how a trial lawyer like Edwards thinks. These threads all have something in common,My dad died of cancer, my sister had cancer, my mother had cancer.Edwards knows this. It will work for votes, because people can relate to this and it's very emotional.Boazo

My apologies to HNAV and Jack Hamilton because it was Jack's comment I responed to. Sorry, I'm just really tired.

Boazo, I just put out there what I believe, with every fiber of my being. Good god, that whole press thing and the follow up -EVERYWHERE- made me sick. Yes. Politics makes not for cynicism, but reality checks. YOU are correct, sir..when you connected the cancer dots from Americans to Edwards. And that scares the **** outta me.

Yes
It is very emotional and the sadist part is the young kids that are not at fault at all. I do not think that Edwards is beyond thinking that he might get a little bump from it but he has to be smart enough to know this will not get him elected. I know Edwards is a rat no question. But I still take no pleasure in this womans cancer those that do are making a mistake. Boazo you were not beat up there everyone at KISP likes you.

Jack go back and read that thread, After I posted it went to a negative theme. with just under the surface remarks like we don't want to be like the du'ers and kos and the best one,
All that being said I think Boazo’s comments are uncalled for. It was a PC thread, tip toe around kinda thing.

I read it. Hell I have had people there disagree with me. But I guess I am used to being called Honky Motherfucker cracker so that little shit does not bother me. It is just a disagreement. I cannot think of a single person that does not like Boazo he is a good guy.It is nothing to stay mad about just say kiss my butt that is my story and I am sticking to it.Hell I had someone there call me a racist and other names. Water off my back. I can kick shit with the best of um.
