Pork-Coke-Worms

The Pork-Coke Experiment
After taping this I went searching for the "Urban Legend" behind it. The trick. The reassurance from the pork council.

I didn't find it.

I'll try this myself, but since I gave up soft drinks for Lent we don't have any Coke, and we ate our last pork chops last night. Eeek.

Reason # 56774899383874664 why my pork and beef are raised individually just for me and why I simply COOK MY MEAT well.

And Rodger...could you maybe shorten the amount of letters in your antispamalot word?

SondraK - I don't control the words, Blogger does. But here's a trick.

I don't have sound at the moment, but I don't need it to know that's a crock. Even if they did manage to find a piece of pork infected with trichinae, the larvae would not look like that. Who the heck made that video, PETA? Or maybe CAIR?

The discussions I've read seem to say the same thing, but leave open the possibility of pork tapeworms. Google "Coke Worms Pork" and see what you come up with.

Hmmmmm. Don't know.I watched one video where after an hour, still no worms. Some sites did get worms...Still unanswered question is: How is Coca-Cola as a marinade?

I haven't looked through all the sites yet, but here's one link that calls it bunk:

Stop the chain

Two things that stand out:
1.) There's nothing in coke that would make pork do this that other marinades wouldn't also cause. It's no more acidic than vinegar. It has less sugar than many pre-packaged marinades. Ditto preservatives.

2.) Most commerically available pigs/hogs nowadays are fed with prepared feed, not slop. This is the reason that trichinosa is basically non-existent (at least in the U.S. pork industry,) and would have the same effect on reducing the chance of tapeworms.

I'll keep looking, but I'm leaning towards a PETA viral video.

Sorry, the above was me. And it should be Trichina, not Trichinosa.

It's a spoof video. I'm at work, and can't get to all the links on this Snopes page, but I'm especially interested in the one at the end (i.e. the "spoof video from Feb. 2007,)

http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/porkworm.asp

There's nothing much new in the text of the Snopes article that's different from the "Break the Chain" link, but I did notice that Snopes just updated or added this page today. It didn't come up in a search of their site yesterday.
