Starkers

Getting some fresh air

Just a blip

ROLL

Sorry about the little blip yesterday. I was reading something when of a sudden I grabbed my AR56 and ran down the street looking for squirrels, I guess. It was a good thing. I spent time with the neighbors, got to know some of our volunteer fireman and police officers a little better, and got some new vitamins. Getting outside once in a while does a body good, I always say.

I, personally, find it refreshing to step out for a breath of fresh air in such a fashion. Mind you, a privacy fence does wonders at times like these. Or living in the "outback" so you CAN do this in the front yard.

I was so distracted by that image that I didn't notice it the first time. AR16?!?

AR15 or M16, civilian version (semi auto only) vs. military verison (full-auto with bayonette lug and optional threaded barrell, depending on year).
Regardless of AR or M, it's still just a high-velocity .22. Not enough punch-through power, IMO.

Favorite tool in the rack is my Springfield M1 Garand (30.06 !!) If a couple rounds from that won't fix your problem, you're having a bad day.

The M1 was designed for marksmen, where infantry was trained to actually aim at individual targets, built before the Vietnam-era strategy of "suppressive fire" became the norm and shots/kills ratios didn't require three digits.

As far as modern military rifles, I perfer the FN-FAL (.308 Winchester) over the M16. The FAL is too damned long and heavy, but is a very capable medium-distance rifle. As the Israelis proved in 1967 and again in '73.

What OregonGuy wrote! If you were shooting squirrels when you had Big Teddy running nude in your yard, you're needing more than fresh air. ;))

What the black spot on the lawn in the rollover? Look like an intentional smudge.

The compromise vehicle between the Garand and the FAL -and my choice- is the M1A, the semiauto version of the M14. Lighter and handier than the FAL, and accurate as hell.
