Kim du Toit warns below that ammo prices are through the roof, so I quickly checked the guys I buy from, CENTURION ORDNANCE, INC.,
Helotes, Texas They manufacture Aguila , a very reliable ammo for
use in match competition. Here's a post I made five years ago about
them.

Consumer report
Ay Carumba - el
bulleto silento grande
In the wake of 9/11, and the most recent sniper attacks, more and more
Americans are buying handguns for the first time. While the .22 is
certainly not the recommended arm for personal protection, it is the cheapest,
and easiest, to practice with (and a .22 between the eyes of an assailant
is most effective). Aguila Arms has a fairly new product,
the Colibri. It contains NO Gunpowder. The overall
length is close to that of a .22 Short. Since there is no powder, the bullet
uses only the power of its Eley primer cap, and has a published velocity
of 375 fps, for a muzzle energy of 6 ft. lbs, about the same as the Crosman
2250 pellet pistol. You can fire this in your kitchen without waking
the dog. It may not work the action on your semi-auto pistol, but so
what. Off a bench, 10m groups were about 3/4", centered and about 3" low.
Make sure you have proper ventilation and a proper backstop,
and its possible to practice in the basement. Except in Maryland,
where it's illegal to discharge a firearm in your house, dammit.
Laws may vary.
By the way, I've been using Aguila Match Pistol
ammo for over a year, in competition, and it's highly reliable. At
about $117 a case (5000), it's damned cheap too.
