Freshman year at PSU my boss gave me the job of cleaning the carpet in the ladies' lounge at the Ballroom level. Hilton Hotel.
She'd given the job to others in Housekeeping...I'd joined the staff that fall.
Long pink shag.
I spent two days working on it. She probably thought I was just as worthless as the other people she had sent to do the job. On the third day she came in for an inspection.
I'd only finished a quarter of the area, but I had changed the color of the carpet back to shocking pink. It took me sixteen more days to scrub the carpet but when I was done it looked like new. According to her. My boss.
Still is one of the proudest moments of my life.
Silly what a work ethic can do for you.
Another job Americans won't do. -
