{aid Family Leave

Have a Nice Pay

Way back 1993 when the Family Leave Act was signed into law by Slick, I discussed my concerns with a way-lefty friend, and businessman.  My gripe was fundamental: Gummint had no right - I said NO -FREAKING- RIGHT - to dictate employee leave policy to employers.  Being a liberal, he dismissed me with the bemused, "well you don't represent compassionate America like I do"  look.   I countered his argument that the employer didn't have to pay a salary to the absent employee (that had to be replaced) , with "And. how long will that be true?"  Ergo. [Pushing Parental Leave]

Federal employees, like other American workers, are entitled to up to 12 weeks of leave after the birth of a child. It's just not paid leave.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers is working to change that, though. And at least one of the group's members believes that legislation to establish a paid parental leave policy for federal employees has a serious shot at passing this Congress.

*snip*

"Stevens believes that federal employees deserve better," Connell said. "They deserve consistency and a guarantee that time off will be available when it is needed most -- when they start a new family."

I knew I'd win that argument sooner or later.   Let me take this opportunity to congratulate Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens (R) on his completed transformation to total asswipe. Took awhile, but he stuck with it. As soon as gummint workers get paid leave, it should take Ted Kennedy about 3 hours to make has speech about the"deprived  private sector... ."

I love Ted Stevens. His state sends every man, woman, and child a check EVERY YEAR of their cut from state oil revenues and then demands that the rest of us be taxed to support projects back home. He can blow me!

That was, I believe, Governor Walter Hickel's doing and I applaud it. Had the state kept that money it would be run like Maryland is today, and be just as broke.

"...when they start a new family." You choose to start a new family, that is your choice. When you make a choice, you look at the options and costs and make your decision. Why am I paying for your choice?
