He was his press secretary, until he was run out of town with wet towels after he was caught fabricating attacks on warships in the Gulf of Tonkin, which lead to the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, LBJ's license to widen the war in Vietnam. When in power, Donks lie. When out of power, they accuse the administration of lying.
By Moyers' account,he left LBJ on less than good terms - never speaking to him again - because he could no longer support the Vietnam War (and wanted to date Jane Fonda, I think).

The truth is Moyer's got angery with LBJ after Johnson bent him over the oval office desk and did something ugly to him and then refused to ever do it again.
