Is Timmah Alive?

Today's Betting Line

Timmah!
This is one of those things I've thought about a hundred times, but never got around to going past that.  Like, how is it that Sen. Tim Johnson can be absent from the Senate since his stroke last year, and still cast the deciding vote that allows democrats to organize the senate?  Without Timmy - and correct me if I'm wrong - the Senate breaks down to 50 Democrats and 49 Republicans.  With the Vice President's vote, that means a 50-50 tie.  Who says Harry Reid is majority leader?  I know there's an answer, but that's not what this is about.

I keep reading all these stories about how Sen. Timmah is back to 100%.

"To look at Tim now, you'd never know anything serious had happened to him," said former Sen. Tom Daschle. "Talking to him, you don't have trouble understanding him, and mentally, he's at 110 percent. He's as sharp as ever."  - Sioux City Journal

Sorry, make that 110%.  Anyway, Johnson's up for reelection this year, so he'll be needing some running money. Over the weekend I heard that Daschle will hold a fund raiser for Johnson. But not in South Dakota. At Daschle's Washington town house. Timmah will be present in spirit only. 110%? I don't think so Lucy.  In fact, here's what I think.  Timmah is back in Sioux Falls taking his nourishment through tubes, and any money raised will be used by Daschle himself in a bid to recapture his Senate seat.  Bets anyone?

The Vice President doesn't get a vote unless there is a tie, and so wouldn't in a 50-49 scenario.

Since South Dakota has a Republican Gov., you can see why it's necessary to keep up the facade of a functioning Timmah.

Actually, Rodge, I'm pretty close to So. Dak. In fact, that paper you quote is my hometown news.(*spit*). Johnson, by all accounts (from folks I trust up South Dakota way, that are in 'the know',) is doing quite well. There have been stories and videos on the Sioux Falls stations showing him reading the paper and visiting with family and friends. Daschle is a lying shrew most of the time - that's true. But I hear Johnson is over 60% recovered.

I find it funny that the discussion of "living wills" and "vegatative state" has never once came up in the MSM as it did so many times during the Terry Schivaro (sp) case. Shouldn't we do the humane thing and starve him to death because it would be painless.

LeAnn, are you sure those are not Castro rehab videos they're showing?
