After a talk with Quinn

 Schlongalysis

Time Line

July 30
Brit PM Gordon Brown stuns leftists expecting him to tell President Bush the Brits are out of Iraq, and instead says "U.S. is Britain's 'most important' ally."
Aug 1
Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Rahm Emanuel reportedly holds conclave with selected democrats and lays out strategy of distancing the party from the Reid-Pelosi leadership disaster.
Aug 14
The White House decides to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (Qods) as a terrorist group. This, a calculated move that tells the mostly pro-US Iranian population that it is Ahmadinejad, not they, whom we are about to smite.

Schlongalysis

Bush laid out for Brown a point by point analysis of the "surge policy's" effectiveness.  Brown was convinced.  At the same time Brown is advised that the US  has decided to hit targets in Iran, and Brown signs on .  Later, French president Nicolas Sarkozy gets the same briefing and he too enlists, as does Israel. Designating Qods as terrorists is final notice to Iran to back off  now or face the consequences. Targets in Iran have been identified, and the only thing that can stop the attacks is Ahmadinejad's acquiescence, which seems quite unlikely.

Emanuel's democrats will also be on board because it gives Donks the opportunity to say, "See, we're not a party of cheese eating surrender monkeys," -- a huge lift going into the '08 elections.

Heard this theory on the Quinn & Rose show this morning...and I agree.

I had an (ex)coworker who claimed that Bush was gonna take on the Iranians after the 2006 mid-terms. I said "bullshit" and, sadly, was proved right. I'm gonna call bullshit on this too :-(

I think after the '06 debacle, the Iranians believed that the democrat controlled Congress would be getting the troops out of Iraq. I'll bet my last donut, they soiled their undies when Bush announced we were going to send an additional 30,000 troops into Iraq. And with a new stategy that appears to be working very well.

So the missing piece here is these talks between the Iranians and Americans in Baghdad. At first, I thought WTF, is Bush crazy? But now I wonder what kind of a tit for tat are we and them angling for?

The Iranians have to know they are a paper tiger and that if we went to town on their refinery(s) they'd be back in the stone age tomorrow. Did W up the ante with this declaration on the Qods? I'd love to be a fly on the wall at the next meeting.

Bush has been misunderestimated from the beginning. It's actually his strong suit

Methinks Bush is starting to not care what the donks think ...

Cheney said something to Musharrif in Pakistan last month that caused him to do a 180 on AQ in Pakistan.

Some kind of threat I'll bet. Something that rhymes with "snuclear".

They try and try to teach this schlump how to give the 'one-finger salute',but he's just too jihawdy-doody to learn.
