Very Cool. Being someone born after the song was written, there is so much there that I would not have even guessed. The Waylon Jennings bit threw me for a loop. That was really well done. Thanks, Rodger.

The reference to the "jester on the sideline in a cast" refers to a motorcycle accident that Dylan had which had him laid up for most of a year.

That was quite intense. I had most of that knowledge, but I never really put it all together like that. Excellent.

That was excellent, riveting.

Cecil Adams at the Straight Dope recently reposted this, which dovetails nicely with this video. Mclean himself even responded, cryptically.

A very excellent double feature for this video is this one of Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire". Many of the same players. Even if you currently think you don't like that song, you won't think that after seeing the clip. Even has Buddy Holly and the Crickets playing.

Rog, I think if you check around you'll find out that the name of the airplane which crashed was American Pie. That's the genesis of the name of the song.

Very nice! I'm forwarding it the masses!

Note: I do Pub trivia on Friday nights and one trivia question I've seen over the years: What was the name of the plane that crashed (and killed Buddy Holly)? For years people have said "American Pie", thus why Don McLean used it for th title of his song. Even *I* thought that was true, but, ARRRRRWWW! WRONG! The answer is D) None of the above. The plane HAD NO NAME...
