Exploding Gun

"The KEL-TEC P-3AT is the lightest

.380 Auto pistol ever made."

A worrisome email: “I bought a P3AT and after shooting about 30 rounds thru it it exploded ( yes, exploded ) in my hand. I thought I had blown my finger off.

When I took it back to the dealer I bought it from, they told me " I got what I paid for."

I've put over 2,000 +P loads through my P3AT with no issues other than those you'd expect in any gun after 100 or so rounds in a session without a good cleaning. The little sucker kicks a bit with heavy loads, but it shoots them at least as well as my PPK does. For a pocket carry pistol, I don't think you can beat the P3AT. Just one gunnie's opinion.

That dealer or his employee is a jerk! (Are the admiting they carry JUNK??)
My wife's .32 Kel-tec as digested a thousand rounds of hot Euro hardball and about 400 rounds of Winchester Silvertips, runs like a Swiss Watch.
I seriously doubt it was an issue with the gun- much more likely the ammo factory or not.
Tim Sundles of Buffalo Bore Ammo just did some tests of those .380 Kel-TEcs with HIS ammo, if they can take that, they can take amy other SAMMI spec .380 ACP.
The Dealer won't be around long if that is their typical response to problems.

I am very interested in Kel-Tec's response and any history of failures that they can share with us. I throw the BS flag on this one.

Maybe the little fellow got tired of being fed a puny europellet and just upchucked in protest. In defense of the cartridge (HA! Hanging Punball...) it is much better than nothing and a well-placed shot with anything is potentially lethal. A poorly placed shot with anything is better than "having a dialogue" with an attacker.

Let's run this by Kel-Tec. I'll make the call.

they can have it. I would not touch one with John kerry's hands. I will use my Colt Defender have fired hundreds of rounds through it no jam no failure.

A Keltec slipped out of the pocket of an older shooter at a range I like to shoot at.

Everyone was downrange changing targets, so the AD came as quite a shock.

It put a hole in the roof of the shed (which shades the shooters).

I don't know whether they have historically had problems or not, but an incident like the one at the range could easliy equate to a funeral.

I am considering a low caliber back-up, but I sure don't want a problem weapon.

I shoot Spanish +P sub-gun rated ammo in mine and all it does is kick a little harder. Ammo problem most likely.

I'm buying myself a Kel-Tec PLR16 for Christmas. Fun.

No way. The DA on this thing practically makes my fingers cry. I carry mine mexi style inside the back of my pants on the little clippy thing with a round of +P 380 frag in the chamber.

I'd not even consider that if I hadn't fired 1K rounds through it and had confidence in the pull.

For the record: 380 Auto is not a "europellet".

It was created by the great John Moses Browning. It was designed to maximize the potential of the blowback action in a handgun.

The P3AT, interestingly enough, is a locked-breech action pistol. The reason: a blowback action pistol uses the mass of the slide to retard the extraction of the casing from the chamber. By using a locked-breech action, Kel-Tec was able to reduce the weight and size.
