I just listened to Sen. Warner
answer the question "Why did you call for 5000 troops to be withdrawn
from Iraq by Christmas?," something like this.
“ | Well,
I said that as an old trooper myself who served in Korea with the
Marines when the cry was 'the troops will be home by Christmas.'

Those are the words of a douchbag to begin with, but according to Jim Quinn, this is what really happened (paraphrased).
Last
week Bush invited a group of Republicans, Warner among them, to the
White House. He shared plans for executing the Iraq war in the
coming months, one of which was to bring 5000 troops home by
Christmas. These would be soldiers deployed 2-3 times, in areas
that are now so safe that they aren't needed. Warner walked out
of that meeting, went straight to a microphone, and told the media that
he was demanding that Bush withdraw 5000 troops by Christmas.
Of a sudden it
appears that Virginia's U.S. Senate delegation is no better than
Maryland's. Worse, actually. Maryland knowingly sends self proclaimed
50's era commies to the upper house, while Virginia is represented by
poseurs and opportunists who say whatever they think will get them
elected (or re-elected?) at any given moment.
