We have an interesting development in the swampland and backwaters of Louisiana.  Gov. Kathleen Blanco has been subpoenaed to testify in the negligent homicide trial for Sal and Mabel Mangano, owners of a  nursing home where 35 residents drowned during Katrina.  It appears Blanco and her staff are just as stupid and negligent today as they were in the days, and hours preceding, and during Katrina.

The trial judge upheld the subpoena and gave Blanco and Attorney General Charles Foti two days to challenge.  They did not.  But, six days after the deadline they filed for an extension.

Defense attorney John Reed said state judicial codes require such extension requests to be made before the deadline.

"We are not talking about missing a deadline by a few minutes, a few hours or even a day. We are now close to a week," Reed wrote in a motion opposing an extension.

But wait, there's more!
Attorney General Charles Foti's office is both representing Blanco and prosecuting the case because St. Bernard Parish District Attorney Jack Rowley recused himself, saying he knew some of the victims at St. Rita's.
Here's what's at stake for Blanco.
Attorneys for the Manganos have said they want to question Blanco about her actions as Katrina approached in late August 2005 to bolster their defense that the government is responsible for the tragedy at St. Rita's because of levee failures and a bungled evacuation that left thousands of residents in harm's way.
Hmmm.  I thought that was settled?  President Bush was at fault for messing with Blanco's head, and stealing the federal money she received to shore up dem levees?  Karl Rove, prolly did that.  If the judge does the right thing, and his ruling was due today, then Blanco wants to submit a sworn affidavit or be questioned during a closed-door deposition rather than testify in open court. No sir, Governor Blanco does not want to testify under oath, that's what got Bill Clinton impeached. Stay tuned.
