What a joke. I give no creedence to this record to me Hammerin Hank still holds this record. This guy is a fraud and people should simply tell the truth he is a cheat.
Speaking as someone who played baseball from the time I was a little kid all the way through college, hitting a baseball well is much more about timing and concentration than it is about raw power. I don't like the thought that Sr. Bonds used steroids and that question will always be lurking in the back of everyone's mind. But the simple fact remains that if the man did not have an eye for the right pitch and the timing to make contact then we wouldn't be having these conversations.
but I'd have more respect for him if he had the ribby record, or the all time on base percentage, without being drug assisted. Brett Boone hit a lot when he was using... he's the poster child for drug assisted atheletes...but he was average at best without. we'll never know what Barry was REALLY capable of, will we? and THAT is why the most he deserves is a footnote.
Brady Anderson was a 10 HR, 30 steals lead-off hitter. Then he reports for spring training all bulked up, and hits 50HR, and steals 100 bases. Next year he "slims down" and goes back to
10-30.
Right.
"that question will always be lurking in the back of everyone's mind"
Where is the "question"?
He has a tainted record which further besmirches the game.
He would have hit many, many homeruns without the drugs, but we will never know.
So just when did the Mayor for Life switch from coke to 'roids? I must have missed that.
Oh! It's the other Barry, the one with an asterisk behind his name! One the size of Arcturus.
A-rod will likely have it beat before long, and the asterick will get moved to a footnote. But really, baseball got what it's been asking for, and now it realizes it didn't want it after all.
