Only in the Times

Too much sentimentality goin' on

The New York Times makes the case that we are spending too much emotional energy remembering the Holocaust.

“I may sound callous, but doesn’t grieving have a shelf life?” said Charlene Mugabe, 57, a nursing supervisor from Arsewhole, Mass. “We’re very sorry and mournful that people died, but there are living people. Let’s wind it down.” [How Much Tribute Is Enough?]

Well, something like that.  The cause of the Times' angst is actually 9/11, but you get the idea.  I may be way out of line suggesting that this venerable newspaper, with its solid record of extolling our country's virtues, has an ulterior motive, but ... . Well, I can't help but think that "9/11" bugs them because it's become a rallying cry, just as  "Remember Pearl Harbor" was.  A rallying cry against the mofkrs who attacked us, and a pledge to destroy them.  That's what I think.

Not sure I have a comment, just an observation.

The Left are wanting to forget 9/11. The Right ditto on Katrina.

It is unclear to me why or when these issues, and others like global warming and immigration, became political.

Hey, Rodger, I never thought I'd be saying this but I agree with the NY Times on this and really have no problem with what the paper said.

OH, WAIT! Let me qualify that ...... just a little bit........

What I meant to say was that maybe we should stop paying as much tribute to those who died and suffered on 9-11 ....... as soon as the media stops the incessant "tributes" and "adulations" and "marches" and "parades" I hear throughout the year (on anniversary dates for birth and death, husband and wife) and especially in February when it's "we shall overcome" and "I have a dream" time...all the time. 24/7.

Why haven't we gotten over THAT? It's been 40+ years.

'Zactly! But of course those serve the pupose of celebrating our dark side.

My upchucking tends to occur over things like the DEATH OF FREAKING DIANA .. Or the WaPost's annual Nixon resignation party.

I would think that the left would be more interested in forgetting Katrina then the right, seein g as how it was mostly liberal/leftist politicians who were responsible for what happened in NO. Oh, that's right, tell a lie often enough and a lefty believes it.
