C-SPAN3 ran a Kennedy
family biographer marathon yesterday, and this 2002 Robert Dallek
segment contained a paraphrased anecdote which rang a bell.
“ | After
Joe Jr. uncharacteristically lost a sailboat race, Joe Sr. responded
quite characteristically, yelling at Jr, "losing is not acceptable for
a Kennedy." Days later he presented Joe with a new sail, and
Junior resumed winning the weekly regattas. Joe Jr. later
realized that his new sail was 9 inches taller than what was allowable,
which expanded sail area gave him an unfair advantage.
