In the early 60's there was a bar on Gay St. named "The Pepper Pot", and when a buddy and I walked in there with our dates one night, we were both groped withing twenty seconds to the accompaniment of howls of laughter from most of the very gay patrons.

Just up the street there was another club whose name escapes me that catered to lesbians. At that time, Gay St. swung both ways and was appropriately named, but before the term gay was widely appropriated by the homosexual/lesbian crowd.
