Drinking, dirty dancing and belligerent behavior shut down a dance at
Severna Park High School Saturday night. At least one student was taken
to the hospital and the rest were sent home early.
Six students appeared drunk, and others were dancing improperly and
disrespecting the chaperones, school system spokesman Bob Mosier said.
The dance started at 7 p.m., Mr. Mosier said. By 8:30 p.m. students had
been sent out into the parking lot to find their way home.
Lauren Hanger, a Severna Park sophomore, said students weren't given an
explanation for why the dance was shut down. The chaperones might have
thought the dancing was inappropriate, she
said. "But it's how our generation dances, We are how we are, that's
how we dance. I'm not saying it's right," she said.
