Berkeley Law

 Free speech isn't free
Sweeeeet.

The Semper Fi Act.

Today, U.S. Senators James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia), Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-Oklahoma), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and David Vitter (R-Louisiana) introduced the Semper Fi Act of 2008. The bill would rescind over $2 million in hidden earmarks for Berkeley, California in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill, and transfer the funds to the Marine Corps. U.S. Congressman John Campbell (R-California) is introducing a companion bill in the House of Representatives.

Finish your assignment!

"One earmark provides $243,000 in taxpayer dollars for the organization Chez Panisse to create gourmet organic school lunches in the Berkeley School District" Sounds like the same food that Miss Nancy just forced the House Cafeterias to serve.

A while back, many of us felt the same way about Fed funds and 'sanctuary' cities. If these municipalities want to break the law, then they shouldn't be entitled to our taxes.Same deal here.

$2 million? Why not steal their lunch money instead, the marines could buy more toys.

If this was anything more than posturing they would write something serious. I remember when the feds were so insistent that Louisiana change the drinking age from 18 to 21, they tried for years and didn't get anywhere....until they witheld federal highway funds. A few billion here, a few billion there, pretty soon you're talking about some real money!
