Net Flix Saga

Net Flix v. ME

Arghhhhhhh

Thanks to everyone who offered advice about getting NetFlix media to work, but I did try it in IE yesterday.  Nevertheless. I just shut down everything but the IE browser, and here are the four screens I get.  WTF?

With XP, somehow I lost my Media player functionality. The icon displays in the system tray, I have sound but no picture. I tried everything but no joy. So I downloaded Zoom player at it works.

I too have several alternative players, but NetFlix, as you see, is insistent on Media Player.

Weird error messages.

I have had an XP box for a while now and DO NOT have Media Center.

Media player? yes.

My Vista laptop DOES have Media Center.

Far be it from me to be an expert on these things but I suspect some "wires" got crossed somewhere and code got garbled. Again, as no expert and knowing if it will fix it, have you tried completely uninstalling Media Player? Once done, shut down, re-boot and then re-install Media Player V11.

Then try the Netflix download again.

If it still does not work I have no idea what you might be able to do.

So sorry.

Vilmar

P.S. Oh, one more thing. If you are not totally fed up with the hassles have you tried going to the Microsoft Support site to see if there's something there?

From Microsoft:

"Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP cannot be installed on computers running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 or Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004."

WTF?!?! is this media Center some sort of "add-on" software? I reckon so.

In any case, no wonder people hate Microsoft.

What a clusterf**k. I don't know what else to say.

I hope you get it resolved.

Hi Rodger...Wonder..Does your Windows Media Player have a DVD decoder installed?

Rodger the Real King of France said...

No, Media Center is the High-end WINDOWS XP-Professional software that shipped with high end Media Center PC's. I am very, very pissed.

Which version of MCE do you have? Is it MCE 2005?

Do you have the SP2 Rollup installed? It's needed for Media Player 11 on MCE

Get it here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900325/en-us

Then try to download and install MP11.

If you have MP10 installed, have a look at this page to troubleshoot it:

If you still have problems, I hang out at Sondra's. Drop by or ask her to give you my email.
