Where's the liberal angst?

I drink either filtered or store bought bottled water because the tap water in Tampa tastes like shit. And ever since they added chloramines to it I don't entirely trust it (if you have a fish pond out back, like I do, stocked with Koi, you can't just top off the pond with the hose when it gets low. You have to first dump a chemical in to offset and neutralize the chloramines or else all the fishies float to the surface dead. I know this through experience.) If tap water kills other animals, just how safe is it?

Yompin Yiminy gimcracks! I routinely use a Brita Pitcher for my drinking, coffee-making and cooking-in water. I have four 500 ml bottles I've managed to accumulate over time and I keep them in the fridge full of Brita water. When I want to carry water, they are my friends. Self-recycling. Easy and cheap. Did I say I cheap? Oh, yes. I did.

I tested the brita, and it works very well. My fridge had a built-in filter that works as good as the brita, and I do the same thing as you BD. Between my wife and me there must be 5 or 6 bottles of water around the house.

My watter is very good... But it could have something to do with the whole house filter water softener and 4 stage reverse osmosis we have set up.

I hope when you say bottles you mean glass bottles. In the past 30 years, the average sperm count in American males has dropped by half. Testosterone levels have also dropped dramatically.

There is a chemical released from the plastic used in plastic water bottles-also the linings in certain kinds of canned food release this chemical and some other containers too. This chemical mimics estrogen and has been found to be a cause of decreased sperm counts and elevated levels of estrogen in men.

Other side effects of increased estrogen in men can be weight gain, especially in your gut, decreased libido, decreased energy levels and mood swings.

When I discovered this, I freaked, threw out the numerous plastic old water bottles that I had been recycling by filling with my at home filtered tap water and bought some stainless steel containers which I now use instead.

I've also read that the more you're reused these plastic containers, the more of this chemical that leeches out. Also, leaving them in a hot car accelerates the leeching as would any in transit heating such as in a boxcar or semi.

I know, it's always something, ain't it?

Anon, is there a source for that info? Snopes, while not addressing the issue of me growing boobs due to reuse of plastic bottles, does go after some claims regarding the carcinogenic problems of reusing plastics, which they claim to be false.

As for "weight gain, especially in your gut, decreased libido, decreased energy levels and mood swings" you can attribute those problems to aging/too much booze.

Here is the book that first brought it to my attention. After I read this, I did further research and came across
http://www.balancingcenter.com/toxins.html
scroll down a bit to the heading of Xenoestrogens

From there I was off and running and read at least a dozen different articles citing many different studies. There is no denying the MEASURED decrease in sperm counts nor the MEASURED increase of estrogen in males over the past several decades.

True, aging/alcohol use can also produce the side effects I listed but I read of one study of doctors detailing the marked increase in the use of Viagra type drugs by men in their 20s and 30s. Couple that and numerous supportive evidence with the conclusions reached by the first book I listed; I thought it's only prudent to stop using plastic water
containers.

Do your own reading, draw your own conclusions. None of us are going to get out of this alive. Hell man, I smoke cigars, but anywhere where you can get the odds more on your side, well why not. Also you're talking to a guy that takes over 75 pills/day of various supplements and vitamins. And beats men half my age in handball and tennis(I'm 56)

as for snopes, I've heard they aren't always the final word-but don't ask for a link on that one

Here in Baton Rouge we have some of the best tap water in the world, artesian trickling down through the Appalachians over a thousand years. I won't drink the bottled water they buy at the office, that Dasani and Ozarka tastes funny.

Shit MM, I always thought you were a thirty-something busty blond. Thanks for bursting my bubble.

A few years ago, Casca II caught me refilling a water bottle, and told me to knock it off. I asked why, and he told me that there were a lot of nasty things in that container that leech into the water over time, and accelerate as the bottle ages. Since he has a chemical engineering degree, I decided to listen to him.

And here I thought reduced sperm count over the last 40 years had a direct correlation to feminism....

Chit, time to get rid of the poly carbonate bottles, oh, wait, their supposed to be safe while feminism is still here.

I propose a test, ditch the bitc-, err, ladies, keep the poly and see how the swimmer count goes.

MM, I'm on a routine like yours, my wife and I take Bi-identical hormone replacement, plus a sh*t load of pills.I take testosterone that's compounded by a pharmacist. The only way it should be taken is through the skin in a cream. Never should it be injected or by pill.Has to be washed off every night or your balls will disappear.More energy, very noticeable. Libido rolled back to a thirty year old, or the crack of dawn isn't safe.Way less aches and pains.I'm 52, and can build muscle with weight lifting. One of the most noticeable things, I'm not out of breath doing strenuous things like climbing stairs. It's all good.
